Banyalbufar

Banyalbufar, municipio situado en el suroeste de la Serra de Tramuntana entre los términos de Estellencs, Esporles y Valldemossa, tiene una población aproximada de 500 personas y su paisaje se caracteriza por las montañas que le envuelven, los espectaculares bancales dedicados al cultivo y su escarpada costa que va del Racó de s'Algar al Port des Canonge.

Los orígenes de Banyalbufar se encuentran en la alquería que nació en el siglo X con el nombre de Banyalbahar, topónimo musulmán que significa "construido junto al mar". Después de la conquista de Mallorca, la vila fue atribuida a Gilabert de Cruïlles y Ramon Sa Clusa, nobles que participaron en 1229 en la expedición militar de Jaume I, y en 1392 fue creada la Baronia de Banyalbufar con jurisdicción civil y criminal sobre todos los habitantes del pueblo.

De las muchas excursiones que se pueden realizar por la zona, la más conocida y recomendable para todos los públicos es la que va desde el pueblo de Banyalbufar al Port des Canonge siguiendo el antiguo camino llamado la Volta des General. Entre los lugares de interés cultural destacan la torre des Verger o talaia de ses Ànimes, antigua torre de defensa ubicada sobre un barranco a las afueras del pueblo en dirección a Estellencs, desde donde se contempla una impresionante vista de la costa, y el antiguo palacio de sa Baronia con una patio interior y una torre de defensa del siglo XVII.

The origins of Banyalbufar is found in the farmhouse that was born in the 10th century with the name of Banyalbahar, Muslim name which means "built by the sea". After the conquest of Majorca, the vila was attributed to Gilabert de Cruïlles and Ramon Sa Clusa, nobles who participated in 1229 in the military expedition of James I, and in 1392 was created the barony of Banyalbufar with civil and criminal jurisdiction over all the inhabitants of the people.
