Already in Muslim times the Almohade town turned it into a reservoir with the purpose of irrigating the nearby lands, a mission that has not ceased to have over the centuries, although from the mid-20th century the Albufera was conditioned to turn it into a tourist destination. The lagoon is bordered by pines and banana trees that allow the visitor to enjoy pleasant walks under its cozy shade. Ducks, geese and herons nest on the island that emerges from the center of the lake, while in its depths we find carps and barbels.
