Desde las alturas
Enclavado en el sector septentrional de la Marina Baixa, El Castell de Guadalest consigue que el turismo de la Costa Blanca se vea atraído por la evocadora estampa de un pueblo que ha sabido mantener, a través del tiempo, los rasgos más típicos de las poblaciones del interior alicantino.

Situado en lo alto de un peñasco a 595 m. de altitud, sus casas encajadas en la roca, dominan un extenso valle, enmarcado por las sierras de Xortà y Serrella al norte y la sierra Aitana al sur.

El municipio, declarado conjunto histórico-artístico en 1974, está dividido en dos barrios claramente diferenciados: el del castillo, colgado en lo alto de la peña y protegido por la antigua muralla, conserva todo su sabor medieval; y, el del Arrabal, de creación posterior, cuando la población aumentó trasladándose a las faldas de la montaña.

Al primero de ellos, se accede por un túnel excavado en la misma roca que sirve de entrada a la población. Encaramado sobre la misma peña, destaca el campanario exento de la iglesia parroquial. A su lado, encontramos los restos de una antigua fortificación conocida como la Alcozaiba, construida por los antiguos pobladores para defender la villa.

Located at the top of a boulder at 595 m. of altitude, its houses embedded in the rock, dominate an extensive valley, framed by the mountain ranges of Xortà and Serrella to the north and the Sierra Aitana to the south.

The municipality, declared a historical-artistic site in 1974, is divided into two clearly differentiated neighborhoods: the one of the castle, hanging on top of the rock and protected by the old wall, preserves all its medieval flavor; and, the one of the Arrabal, of later creation, when the population increased moving to the skirts of the mountain.

The first one is accessed by a tunnel excavated in the same rock that serves as entrance to the town. Perched on the same rock, the exempt bell tower of the parish church stands out. Beside it, we find the remains of an old fortification known as the Alcozaiba, built by the ancient settlers to defend the town.
