The church of Las Salinas was constructed for the salineros that lived in the near town of Las Almadrabas de Monteleva. It was inaugurated in 1907. It is so close to the beach of Las Salinas, or beach of Cabo de Gata, which was built on a platform to prevent water and sand from entering.

It is a small church with bell tower, and is oriented to the southeast, towards the salinero neighborhood, with the Sierra de Gata in the background. Its architectural style shows the prevailing eclecticism of the early twentieth century. Its floor is rectangular, with access stairs flanked by stone walls; The portico, with four square columns, supports the balcony of the choir; And the door has a half-point arch.

In it was venerated Our Lady of the Carmen, patron of the sailors, and to Santa Barbara, protector against the storms. After being abandoned decades, it was said relatively recently that satanic rites were celebrated in her. Apparently they were just rumors. Later, the church was rehabilitated, although it continues without cult.
* The southwest facade of the church is parallel to the beach. With an extension of about 2.5 kilometers and a width of approximately 80 meters, the beach of Las Salinas is a beauty. Its sand is white and very fine, and the water pure and clean. On this beach the wind blows from time to time, making the waves moderate, but is perfect for bathing.
*
It is surrounded by a stunning landscape, since very near there is an area of marshes that harbors very interesting birds. Although the place is protected, you can access the beach by car.
