Ciudad de Avila


La Muralla de Ávila es una cerca militar románica que rodea el casco antiguo de la ciudad.

En la actualidad, el casco antiguo, la muralla y las iglesias situadas extramuros han sido declaradas Patrimonio de la Humanidad. Las murallas son el símbolo universal y monumento más destacado que acoge la ciudad de Ávila. Su importancia se deriva por ser el recinto amurallado medieval mejor conservado de España y probablemente de toda Europa.

El carácter militar de la muralla es eminentemente defensivo y se mantuvo aún con las reformas realizadas en el siglo XIV que la reforzaron.

The Muralla de Avila is a Romanesque military fence that surrounds the old town.

At present, the old town, the wall and the churches located outside the walls have been declared a World Heritage Site. The walls are the universal symbol and most outstanding monument that welcomes the city of Avila. Its importance derives from being the most preserved medieval walled enclosure of Spain and probably of all Europe.

The military character of the wall is eminently defensive and was still maintained with the reforms carried out in the fourteenth century that reinforced it.
