Gozo, Azure Window

Cuando se mencionaba el Azure Window, sin duda estábamos hablando de una de las estampas más conocidas y espectaculares de Malta, del país no de la isla, porque este arco natural de piedra que era una ventana abierta al Mediterráneo de la isla de Gozo. Este sitio natural que se encuentra en la costa occidental de la isla menor del archipiélago de Malta. A sólo 12 Km. del puerto de Gozo, Mgarr Azure Window era un lugar que no debíamos perdernos cuando visitáramos Gozo.
Desgraciadamente, la fuerza del temporal que azotaba Malta la mañana del 8 de marzo de 2017 causó el derrumbamiento del arco del Azure Window. El desplome se produjo después de que la gigantesca columna de piedra que sostenía el arco se desmoronase. La noticia causó un revuelo mundial entre los millones de turistas que habían podido disfrutar de la joya de la preciosa formación. En 2013 estudios de conservación ya habían alertado de la situación, y de la fragilidad del “monumento” natural, expuesto al oleaje.

When you mentioned the Azure Window, certainly were talking about one of the most famous and spectacular of Malta, of the country not on the island, because this natural stone arch which was a window on the Mediterranean island of Gozo.
