La abadía
En medio de un frondoso valle se encuentra la Abadía Benedictina de Samos, que sigue siendo monasterio en la actualidad, el Real Monasterio de San Julián o San Xián. Este templo, hoy benedictino, es uno de los tres monasterios que aún están habitados por monjes en Galicia. La abadía fue fundada por San Martiño de Dumio en el siglo VI, en plena etapa visigótica. Su historia está relacionada con el refugio de Alfonso II el Casto antes de ser coronado rey de Galicia en el año 759, que dominó el cenobio con las tierras. Este templo, ligado a los grandes centros monásticos de Toledo, dispone de una grandiosa fachada barroca que recuerda a la escalinata de la fachada del Obradoiro de Santiago de Compostela.

In the middle of a leafy valley is the Benedictine Abbey of Samos, which is still a monastery today, the Royal Monastery of San Julián or San Xián. This temple, today Benedictine, is one of the three monasteries that are still inhabited by monks in Galicia. The abbey was founded by San Martiño de Dumio in the 6th century, in the middle of the Visigothic period. Its history is related to the refuge of Alfonso II the Chaste before being crowned king of Galicia in the year 759, which dominated the monastery with the lands. This temple, linked to the great monastic centers of Toledo, has a grand baroque façade that recalls the stairway of the facade of the Obradoiro of Santiago de Compostela.
