Monasterio de Poio (Pontevedra)
El Monasterio de San Juan de Poio, se encuentra enclavado en la Ría de Pontevedra, puede considerarse como la antesala de la ruta turística que desde Pontevedra conduce al incomparable valle de las tierras del Salnés y se interna por el contorno de la ría de Arousa.
La tradición fija el siglo VII como posible fundación del monasterio, y atribuye la misma a San Fructuoso. Aunque sus orígenes nos son desconocidos se sabe, en todo caso, que ya existía en el año 942, gozando de notable protagonismo, especialmente en los siglos XVI y XVII.
El Claustro de las procesiones es una obra magnífica del S. XVI del arquitecto Ruiz de Pama-mes y del maestro Mateo López. Tiene arcos redondos y bóvedas de crucería que arrancan de ménsulas en forma de mascarones empotradas en los muros.

The Monastery of San Juan de Poio, is located in the Ría de Pontevedra, can be considered as the prelude to the tourist route that from Pontevedra leads to the incomparable valley of the lands of Salnés and is entered by the contour of the Arousa estuary.
Tradition sets the seventh century as a possible foundation of the monastery, and attributes it to San Fructuoso. Although its origins are unknown to us it is known, in any case, that it already existed in the year 942, enjoying remarkable prominence, especially in the 16th and 17th centuries.
The Cloister of the processions is a magnificent work of the 16th century by the architect Ruiz de Pama-mes and the master Mateo López. It has round arches and ribbed vaults that start from brackets in the form of masks embedded in the walls.
